Origin Made
When I first came to Portugal, I was amazed by the abundance of industry and craft nestled among beautiful landscapes. This made me think about creating a brand that puts the artisan and the process of making in focus, where the designer is the secondary protagonist instead. And so in 2018 Origin Made was born. The idea was to build a community of makers and designers, working together to create handmade products that fall between the realm of art and design.
Workshops and Visits
We rented a Portuguese townhouse for a few nights and invited 8 designers from Europe and North America over to Porto for a design workshop in the spring of 2019. Several Porto based designers also joined. We visited different craft workshops during the day and sketched around the same table in the evenings. The result is a collection with a diverse range of products using different materials and craft techniques found in Northern Portugal, made in small batches but not limited quantities, so as to provide a sustainable source of income for the craftsmen involved.
